I've never had any of the screws come loose but the bike originally had one of the old style black Supertrapps on it with one bolt through the center that held the end cap on and all the discs in place. One morning when I was driving to work the bolt rusted through and when it broke the discs all came flying loose and flew all over the highway!
I had an early Supertrapp with just the centre-bolt and it also blew it's guts all over the road.

Bad News... i try starting my sr today... took me over 50 kicks.. the bike's been sitting for 2 weeks.. I see mega rust particles in the gas filter.. i'm wondering if there's a clog as the inside of my tank is really rusty. Once it begins to have life, (choke on and off..i tried).. it revs for a few seconds..then just dies.. after like 10 more times, I give it a good rev.. seems to be smooth and running as normal..
any ideas?
Kit

You may need to flush out the tank and the petcock to get out all the rust and make sure the fuel is flowing freely.

Hi Kit - Thanks a heap for all that info - will definitely try to get to those shops for a look! As for having a chinese speaking friend with me, unfortunately all of them live here in Melbourne - and I don't think I can afford to fly one over with us :-). But do let me know if you're planning a visit to either of these shops between the 1st and 8th of June, and I'll tag along with you if that's OK ;-). Cheers - roadster

Hey Kit - thought I'd let you know - just got back from HK and your tips were great!! Went to both the shops you suggested - real easy to find thanks to your maps and info. Ricoland was awesome - so many SR bits and pieces and very helpful staff. Loved the BSA/SR hybrid the guy had built for his son! Managed to get some Daytona bits for half the price I'd pay here in Aus and was great to just see so many Daytona/Posh parts on display. Also got to Motomart - huge range of bike gear - got some boots and gloves at excellent prices. Very tempted by their very cool helmets as well but without Aus standard permits wasn't game to take the risk of bringing one home. Again, many thanks for your help and anyone else thinking of visiting HK should most def consider visiting these two shops!

Hi Roadster, Glad you find it useful... everytime i walk into these candystores i end up leaving behind half of my fortune... just got some clip-ons handlebars, the top plate that goes on the top of the fork (what's that call?? normally, where the handle bars are bolted onto, but the new ones is smooth..for the clip ons..) and my "Official" tank cover arrived last week from Japan too.. it's now in the shop .. pics to follow!!

The tanks here are just plain painted steel. What's a tank cover needed for?

The tanks here are just plain painted steel. What's a tank cover needed for? hi Steve, check this page out.. www.rakuten.co.jp/official/620402/586684/the "cover" is a different shape. made with fiberglass, it goes over the existing stock sr tank. you'll be amazed at the fit and finish. .. it hugs extremely tight to the original tank. zero movement at all.. and only if you look REALLY REALLY hard on the underside, you see it's not an actual tank, but the cover... That's interesting but what I really need is a bigger tank since I'm tired of having to fill it up every single day.
