(I'm still trying to get this picture posting thing to work.) Yes, $27.50 US was the price. I moved into a small rural community in 1992 and discovered this bike in a neighbors garage just as you see it now. He planned to make it into an "ice bike" and got as far as stripping off the street legal stuff. It sat this way for 5 years in his garage. Every year I asked him to sell it to me. After 5 years he finally caved in and told me he wanted at least what he had into it - $27.50 in carb parts. He actually started it and drove it over to my place where it has been stored in a corner in my shop since then. Now it is time to do something. Since there is too much wrong with this thing, including a bent front wheel and seized front brake caliper, that I really do not have to worry too much about discarding good parts. I think that I got a box of the parts he took off but I have so many stock SR500 parts on the shelf anyway, it is hard to say. I have been amazed with what builders are doing with SR500s these days. I am leaning towards a minimal (meaning less is better) type build similar to what hopwheels just completed. Light and fast with an emphasis on handling. I have a spare engine that suffered a 90mm piston seizure to build, while I use the engine in the bike as a test bed to develop the chassis improvements. I want to have Powroll increase the stroke to 91 mm with a shortened rod to mate to a Wiseco 90mm 11:1 piston. The shortened rod will give me approximately a 10:1 ratio. If you do the math, the modifications should yield 579cc. It should take premium gas from any pump with out a problem. I already have a megacycle cam in a street grind with springs and a big Mikuni carb/K&N filter that have hardly been used. All of this used to be on the spare engine mentioned above. I have been storing the stuff for about 20 years. Like I said, "It's time to do something!"

[/img] Here is the other side - I think I have this picture posting thing figured out.[/quote] You need to get your url in between those img tags. I edited the last one for you and Cameron has posted an example. Hope this helps, G Man

Nice start for a project, retread! I have an XS650 front wheel with spokes and an akront-style rim you might be able to use... I've also got the matching rim for the rear. I also have another SR500 with a newer style drum type rear - I think the drum rear is actually lighter than the disk rear... Jim

To whom it may concern: I have not dropped off the face of the Earth! I am scrounging for parts at swap meets with little result and still planning what I am going to do with this thing as far as improving handling. I have had so many vehicle issues that have taken up my shop time that my TDM850 is not even on the road yet! This is truly a LONG TERM project.
