Hey gang:
The other bike project in the garage (and on a long-term track) is this cross over (read Frankenstein) SR/XT/TT track racer. Not entirely sure yet where I want to go with this, but here it is. And I'm pretty sure I'm not the one to race her. So why you ask? Dunno, just gotta do it
I think I'm going with a top end SR and bottom end XT/TT (simpler electrical), with an SR clutch basket (not sure barnett clutch plates need the reinforcement strap around the clutch basket of an SR, but seems like a good idea). Not dead set on this setup. Other motor hop up stuff (cam, piston, etc.) and probably a 38mm Mikuni. I won a new high mount 1 3/4" head pipe and mid pipe on eBay this guys is making in Oregon for TT's. Nice, and will allow me to run a Supertrapp race exhaust, but mounted higher up.
Right now those are XS650 forks on the front and an XJ550 fender (plastic for weight, and seems to have a nice fork brace built it). But, based on my post in the chassis section, I may go FZR front end if it fits. If I stay with the XS stuff, I'm looking at dual 2 pot Brembos with FZR rotors and spacers.
This is the project where I'm trying and tinkering to get even more hands on experienece for cross fitting parts from other models. Has a TT500 aluminum swingarm, but have also though about going mono shock (looked at maybe a WR250 or 500 swingarm, but I think it is FAR too extended at a 23 1/2" length). I might try a early 90's WR500 rear wheel with disc brake and modify the TT arm for a caliper mount and stay.
Looking for a more fitting race tank.
I'm also going to try my hand at welding and modify the frame (just adding a bit of bracing, a seat mount and rearset mounts, nothing major structural for this novice). That's all for now kids, I'll post updates when there's anything noteworthy. All input is welcome!
