Ok so i went ahead and took some of your advice and bought the bike from this thread sr500forum.proboards38.com/index.cgi?board=General&action=display&thread=1176157909the previous owner said the bike had a stuck float when he got it. he told me before i picked it up that he had cleaned out the carb and got the bike started. When i got the bike home i got it to start once but then had trouble starting it again. pulled the plug and it was fouled. bought a couple new plugs, threw in a new one and it fired right up. i went for a 5-10 minute spin and pulled the plug again and it was black and covered in soot. i had noticed some black smoke on the ride so i guess the mixture was way off. I put in the spare plug fiddled with what i hope is the mixture then took it for a another spin. When i pulled the plug this time it looked much better. still may be a bit rich but not nearly as bad. the bike now starts on one or two kicks. let me tell you i love riding this thing. a ton more torque than my cb350. i can tell when i get this thing lined out it will be a blast.
