Hi Just found this forum and it's awesome. I've owned my 79 SR500 since I rescued it from the boneyard in the mid 1980s. It had only 12,000 km on the clock but had suffered from sitting outside for God knows how long. There was a corrosive seizure of the piston, the battery had detonated at some point and one shock was missing. Hopefully, the pic will post but if not, I'll try and figure it out at some point in the near future. Right now, it's February in Canada and we're in the middle of a huge snowstorm - I'll have to crank up the snowblower pretty soon to dig out. Mods - Seat recovered by Sargents in Florida to my specs Oil Cooler First over Yamaha piston Supertrapp shorty muffler Single walled header pipe Honda Ascot front fender Braided front line with Ferodo pads Yamamags ditched for an XS650 19-inch front and an RD250 18-inch rear with alloy rims. Dunlop K591 rubber Mid 80s ZX7 footpegs on modified, chromed stock brackets Flat bars with Galindo Superbike grips Huge K & N air filter Billet oil dipstick Probably more stuff than I can think about right now. Hope the picture thing works but if not, I'll try again once the storm is over. Bear with me.

Alright , another Canuck. Nice looking bike. Lots of information and advice here. Wicked storm outside. Ice, snow, wind. I'm itching to ride again, it's been weeks.

Nice looking SR!
We're spoiled down here, we don't really have seasons at all...

Hey Boone....correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't your SR500 the subject of a feature in the Automotive section of the 'Toronto Star' newspaper a few years ago? I'm sure I've seen it somewhere else. There was a story about an SR being brought back to life. Cheers.

Yo canucker - yep, that would be me and the article ran last winter when I didn't have anything else to ride..... or write about. Even though I ride all the new stuff all summer, I'll probably never sell the SR.

WELCOME TO THE SR500 FORUM!
Glad to have you here. Nice job on the SR. I like the choice in rims. I'd like to scare up some like that as well.
Take care and talk to you soon, G Man

That is one awesome story Stew!
I was wondering when the rest of the Ross clan caught the SR bug. Has your son got one of them yet?
And Boone, do you happen to have a scanned copy of that article? It'd be an interesting read.

Hi Boone, I recall reading something similar to your story a fair while back. Might have supplied to us by one of our other Canadian friends... There's an an area on here where Gary can put such stories...look here: sr500forum.bravehost.com/articles.htmlIf you can, get it posted there for future readers. SR
