Sorry these images are a bit big (I'm a computer dunce!), but here are some pics of my '78 SR500, taken at the summit of Mt Donna Buang (Victoria) on Sunday. As you can see, changes include the exhaust, flat bars and bar-end mirrors, bullet indicators, and a tombstone tail-light. Am I cool because I'm on my bike, or is it cool because it has me on it? I'll post up a thread on those jeans; I've made my own mc jeans, with leather stitched onto the internal side of the knees and bum area copying the design from a mate's pair of Draggin jeans - $20 for the jeans, $5 for the leather, $10 for leather thread (used a heavy needle and a pair of pincers). -Matt

Very nice indeed. First thing I noticed was the muffler. I wish we could hear what it sounds like. Bet it is very nice and LOUD!!!!

Looks really nice. The plain glossy tank without any emblems stands out. I got to get some of those little, bullet indicators. Wherever you are in Australia...the trees and plants look a lot like Ontario, Canada. Most of us in the "New World" think of Australia as lots of desert and sand.

Here’s a recording, done with the same digital camera, so the sound is a bit hollow but still good (the visual is terrible). picasaweb.google.com/damiensawyer/MtDonnaBuang/photo#5155454369200041074 I haven't yet met up with the SR500 Club here, so I can't compare. Most of us in the "New World" think of Australia as lots of desert and sand. You’ve been watching Mad Max again, haven’t you! (As a side note, the underground workshop where max receives the Interceptor, is the underground parking lot of Melbourne Uni, where I study and work – I get to ride through there all the time and rev my engine!)

Looking good mate - I like the Rocker Jacket!
Very nice looking SR, I'm buying a car soon, so I can give my SR the TLC it deserves.

hey matt. great looking SR!
i've got a black SR400 and was thinking of taking the emblems off my tank as well, but i'm a bit worried it'll screw up the paint job.
what's the trick? it's the solid circular yamaha one i'm most worried about. any ideas?
cheers

Fortunately the tank was already de-badged and painted when I got it. I recently took the badges off an SR185 tank, and they 'peeled' (as it were) off easily, with no damage to the paint. I wouldn't know about the 400/500 tank though.
I removed the left-hand switch block last night and replaced it with Lucas replica switches. Started to remove the throttle slider and switch block on the right side, but the slider I'd been sold (some old metal thing from a cupboard in Modak's vintage brit bike shop) was a bit dodgy - didn't slide properly. Should look good though when I finally strip the stuff back to a bare handlebar and grips look! (NB if you get an after-market throttle slider - the system for bolting the throttle cable into the throttle slider is not universal in size, will need to get a universal throttle cable to suit).
Marlon, I hope you intend to get an interesting car, full of rockabilly character and 40 year old mechanical intrigues?!

I wish matt. Sadly, the classic car collection will have to wait another 20 years! My everyday transport is now a Mazda2.

Believe it or not, straight in the back seats which lay flat. I can also fit two electric basses, my 750 watt head, 1x15 speaker box and 2x15 speaker box in and still have some room for more gear. It's the ugly 04 boxy model, which is shitloads more practical than the new Mazda2 body shape my girlfriend has.

Soft! As a teenager, at Christmas time when our community band would play several nights a week, our four-member family would pile into a Datsun 200B, with a euphonium, a banjo, a tuba and a drum kit, plus sundry bits and pieces!

But who cares if a Tuba or a Banjo were damaged! I like to fit mine in comfortably ;D

But who cares if a Tuba or a Banjo were damaged! But Tasmania gets cold in the evenings, and we needed some sort of entertainment! They were a big step-up from the musical jug!
