Deus musta woken up a bit. They really did quote me $12K late last year, but last night I was looking though a 2 or 3 month old Motorcycle Trader ( I bet I'm not the only guy who can't bear to throw them out) and lo' and behold there's Deus advertising stock bikes from $8,500.
That's probably reasonable if you get a low mileage bike, checked by a mechanic who regularly works on them, maybe you can even screw some warranty out of them.
Let's face it, a lot of bike mechanics who spend their lives working on the latest and greatest tend to say things like, "Yeah they look great mate, but that old technology's shit mate. Why don't you get a decent modern bike, yada, yada, yada.........." i.e. they really don't give a crap, which means their check over would be pretty ordinary. Or maybe it's just the bike mechanics I meet up this way.
Still reckon I'd love to be able to justify spending $17K on their white street scrambler. They are saying 120kg/38HP. It would fly compare to mine. I reckon my XT is 138kg/29hp and my SR is 165/30. That seems to be the numbers I have read and heard about, so 120/38 is a massive improvement.
Thing is though, I sincerely doubt I'd get a Deus bike registered in SA.
I look at all the pictures and think - after market exhaust is probably really loud, can't see any indicators or mirrors, rear mudgurad does not extend past the rear axle, does that front mudguard go 45 degrees from the forks each way, no battery, so you can't trun any of the lights on without the engine running, so that immediately makes the bike illegal in South OZ, etc.
At least Bize has finally put to rest my doubts about Australian Compliance plates.
Still might risk it one day, especially since a bloke I used to work with is now working in the local rego office. Might be able to persuade him it doesn't need to go to the cop-shop for a visual inspection.
A thought has occured to me - NSW riders maybe able to enlighten me as to what is this "rec reg" that I sometimes see bikes advertised with?
