I do not know if it was exclusive to the UK but the colour of the original UK bikes was red and black as my bike above or Navy blue with a grey tank panel. The SR500 was reintroduced around 1981 (I think) with cast wheels and paint scheme as below with a tank colour scheme that echoed the late 1970's Meriden Triumphs.

There's so many paint schemes for various years of SR's. I've got two 1979 models, one Canadian and the other American, and the only difference is that the pinstripe on the tank of the Canadian model curls around the side of the tank. On the U.S. model, there's a straight pinstripe along the bottom of the tank. Both are black with gold pinstripes. In the U.S., the SR was purple with no pinstripes in 1980. Here in Canada, we only got SR's in 1978 and 1979. In the U.S., 1978-79-80

Hi, The red and black bike above is the H model here in Aus. They stopped bringing them in here after that. The '78 E model here in Aust had the black paint (a very fine gold flake through it) and a straight gold single pin stripe along the bottom of the tank...the '79 F had the same but the gold pin stripe curved up around the front of the tank. The '80 G model was metallic red here with a curved thick and thin stripe around the tank...the '81 was as in the pic above... All had mag wheels with disc and dsic on the E and F and a drum rear on the others...if you look on the SR Cafe at Yam Japan you can see a large amount of other tank paint schemes there were from the different markets and years. Interesting stuff to an SR officianado...heh, heh... www.yamaha-motor.jp/mc/lineup/sportsbike/sr400/cafe/history/index.html[/img]
