Hi all, I think that I am probably circumventing the welcome mat but I also have a question and hope that this forum can give me a few pointers. I am based in Perth, Western Australia. My current projects include three SR's (two stock one cafe) and enough spares to probably build at least one more. At the moment one runs (sort of). I have just joined up with the Aussie SR500 Club and I notice that there are a number of aussies already on the forum.
My question is a bit parochial but I also believe that it is better to try to learn from others experiences. So; we know the web is a wonderful thing, and I have been greatly encouraged by the number of sources for various parts for SR's, my experience of trying to order parts is less "web-ready" than you might expect ie: being quoted $40US for a whole engine gasket set (Athena) and then $62US to ship it to Australia!! The company involved simply stating that they only use FedEx no alternative transport available.
To my Aussie companions then (and maybe others further afield that might have other experiences of international parts sourcing that works). Do we have names and contact details of companies that are Southern Hemisphere friendly or maybe local that have a competitive source of SR parts?? My immediate interest is "consumable" engine componentry pistons, rings, gaskets, filters, carb rebuild parts etc.
I have (I think) left my email address visible just in case folks prefer to respond directly and I welcome any inputs and new contacts.

Yes, there a number of members from Oz. Excellent! There appears to be a great many SR's and owners there. I dream of joining most of you for a holiday and tour around the continent. Ahhhh... but back to reality. You guys are so far away from where I am and my two weeks a year allowance for holidays just doesn't seem enough! Maybe someday. I will wait and see if others nearer to you can help with your parts query... if not, maybe I'll price out stuff and check shipping. Some of the companies you questioned may be right though... we shipped parts to a fellow from Australia some time back. It was a little expensive and took around two months for the poor fellow to receive his goods. Anyhow, looking forward to talking to you soon.
