Hi, My 79 sr500 has no spark over 4000rpm.
At 4000 rpm floods and then backfires, in all gears and won't go over 4000.
I bought a timing gun and realized that there is NO timing advance as I increase the rpm. At 4000rpm the spark stops and on deceleration only comes back around 2500rpm.
From what I have seen the CDI either works or doesn't work. Is this correct?
The bike has a new spark plug and rewound stator.
Thanks Quentin

Hmm I once rewound my stator , & I didn't put enough turns onto the bigger of the coils & I hate to burst your bubble but that is exactly what it did ! Started fine & as I went up the driveway it cutout & backfired at about 3-4k, it couldn't be ridden , so it was back to the drawing board & I got away with winding just that coil.(it wasn't a biggy for me as I was working in the wind shop & I even got paid to do it!)If you've got a spare CDI its easy to prove as it wont make any difference . It may be the coils aren't connected correctly as this can happen(I know as I've made a couple of stuffups myself) But thats where I'd look cheers Dave.
