hallo, i have a sr 500 2j4 1981 that i bought from germany 4 years ago and i have a proplem if i can cal it that,so when i drive its ok but when the oil temp gets to 70-80 there comes extra horsepower and the engine runs muts smuther ???i have change every electrikal items on the bike,and compl rebuild the engine and carp(used one) maby this is normal for the sr i dont know because there is only one sr here and i got it so there is no compare,it takes abut 45-60 minutes to get to that heat because of the cold wether here,any ideas?i also have a xs 650 but i like the sr muts beter, more bottom end torgue and a lighter bike ps ecxuse my english best regards from iceland audunn jonsson

just a thought maybe you have the wrong oil in it? it might be too thick. as oil heats up it flows better and would let every thing run with a lot less drag because it has less resistance the motor would not use as much power to move the oil around giving you more power to the back wheel .

ok i did not think about that,i am using 20w50elf motorcycleoil, i am defently going to try that,thank you for a quik answer,maby i try using 10w40 or 10w30.thank regards audunn

-10w40 in the snow, oil temp is fairly good, 70 to 80c is fine. under -20c go thinner. regards, carl. 20w50 from about 15c to 50c temperature

ok,thanks for that info,the summer heat here is about 10-20 celsius so i am going to try that,now its nearly spring time so its about 5-8 celsius. thanks audunn
