I got my manual today as well as a Battery Eliminator from Thumperstuff. I thought I'd just remove my entire battery box from under the seat because I wouldn't need it to hold my battery anymore. To my surprise, there are parts attached to the box. I got a Haynes manual and I can't even find mention of these parts in the manual. It seems kind of thin... Can you tell me what these parts are? Should I relocate them from my battery box if I want to remove it? Do I even need them? What do they do? I have seen lots of pics of SR's with their side covers removed and all you can see in there is there fatty Air Filter. I like that look. How can I do that? ;D Here are pics of the parts in question. Silver HeatSink on the left side of the battery box Black Box on the right side of the battery box Thanks!

hallo cordodor, the heatsink is your rectifier/regulator. the blackbox is your cdi. they both can be attached under the seat between the frame rails. some make or buy a aluminium bracket for this purpose. sjef

thanks sjef. Great idea on relocation. I'll have to try to find/make something like that.

Yes...I have used the holes in the tabs that hold the top of the sidecovers onto the bike to attach an alloy plate with 6mm screws...useful things those tabs. Put the CDI bove the plate and I put the rectifier underneath out in the airflow. Makes the whole bike look cleaner and less cluttered. See the difference between the middle and bottom pics in the battery and filter area on my black cafe racer. sr500forum.bravehost.com/cafeproject.htmlSR

:bump: does anyone know what these plate/bracket/trays are called or have a link to one somewhere? I went to www.ufo-online.jp and they only have tanks now for the sr500 it seems. (although i speak absolutely no japanese...) anyone else have a suggestion? I dont really have the tools to make my own.

Hi, They aren't real difficult to make. If you want to have a go, use cardboard and make a template, then trace onto a sheet of alloy and cut it out...if you want to buy one then Vanem and Deus both ship internationally. Here's Vanem's site for the part: www.vanem.com.au/LightsElectricB.htmHere's Deus's contact: www.deus.com.au/Here's our site that has many other useful links as well: www.warouw.com/sr500act/?LinksSR

well, i took a piece of metal from my battery box and drilled some holes in it. I need to go get some more hardware before I can finalize it all, but I think it will work for me.

Looks pretty useful to me mate...alloy is good because it doesn't rust...although it can corrode in the right (wrong) environment. Not much rusts at all here in Canberra...it's a very dry environment. SR

You could always remove it once it's done and have it powder coated or similar...you'd probably need to remove the paint for earthing for the CDI etc...not sure. SR

I don't think earthing the CDI is anything to worry about... I have an aftermarket CDI that isn't bolted to anything (if I remember correctly, it lacks bolts holes, and is completely incased in plastic. I assume that if one doesn't have to be grounded, the other wouldn't. Not 100% sure though.
