I am currently working on my first SR and found a great looking headlight assembly at my local junkyard. It is VERY similar to the headlamp that Vanem sells which holds a small speedo inside it. The only brand identifier on it is on the small plastic disc that fills the speedo hole when not using a speedo there. The plate says CEV on it. On top of the bucket are two small lenses, one red and one green, which are lit up by festoon bulbs. Inside the bucket there is a board with wiring leads. They read SP, 56, T-, L+, 51, B+, 61, FT at the connectors.
Now the issue I am having is trying to wire this thing up without destoying it. It is a 6v sealed lamp system and I know that the SR is 12v. I know very very little about how wiring works. Here are my questions:
1.Is there a halogen kit for this size headlamp so I can run a 12v halogen in it? Interior diameter of the lense is 130mm. Exterior diameter of the lense is about 150mm.
2.Can i put 12v festoon bulbs in it to replace the 6v festoon bulbs in it now?
3.Anyone know what this came off of?
4.What would happen if I hooked it up to a 12v system?
Any help would be appreciated. I know someone out there can shed some light on this for me.
Thanks in advance Aaron

Aaron,
CEV electrical equipment was used a lot on Italian bikes so the headlight is probalbe from one of the multitude of small Italian bikes.
The 6V globes will just blow if connected to 12V. Festoon bulbs are dificult to get in some 6 volt sizes, I have alot of trouble finding bulbs for my early hondas.
As too finding a halogen insert for the headlight, about all I could recommend is to try a good auto parts store as there might be a suitable sized car replacement light.

Another thought for the headlight would be to try a vintage Ducati specsialist. They might do 12v upgrade for the Ducatis and thefore have a suitable headlight.

Thanks for the help. I went to a few places today and one shop had one sealed beam for it in 12v. Got it hooked up and it seems to work great. My lights only work on high beam (front and rear) so maybe i wired something wrong or maybe my controller needs some TLC. Now the top two lights are lit by festoon bulbs. Never heard of them before but found some online for boats and water crafts. Gonna wire the green one up to my neutral indicator and the red one up to my turn signal indicator. Hope it all works. Thanks again Aaron
