I bought some new aftermarket turn signals that use a single filament 12 Volt 4 watt bulb. I installed one of the blinkers on the left rear side of the bike and it and the left front blinker which is the stock blinker stays on rather than blinking. The blinkers on the right side of the bike operate normally. Is it possible that all the blinkers need to be replaced at the same time to work properly? Any ideas?

Hi Josh, The thing on your bike that makes the turn signals flash is called a "flasher relay". It needs at least a certain approximate amount of current flowing through it to make your bulbs flash (The current drawn would depend on the size of your flasher bulbs). The stock turn signal bulbs for an SR500 is 27W (12V). So when you engage the right or left turn signal, that's 54W of current flowing through the flasher relay. Usually, when a bulb burns out, or is replaced by a much smaller bulb, the relay will make the bulbs stay on steady. There are three fixes for your problem that I know of. 1: introduce some resistors in your left and right flasher circuits in order to create more current draw 2: take your flasher relay apart (it's under the seat, a cylindrical metal thing about the size of a film canister, and with a 3 wire connector attached) and try to figure out how to re calibrate it to work with much lower wattage bulbs. 3: keep the stock bulbs, seriously dude, who's going to see 4W of flashing power? Your last bit of advice is the best. The little indicator globe in the tacho is 3W which is hard to see in the sun. Would you really want to rely on a car driver to see a 4W globe? Mick
