So I lost the key to my SR and won't be able to have a new one made for another week or so. Is it possible to wire the SR so that I don't need it? If so, then how? I still have the stock kill-switch on her. Thanks, Cameron

So I tried rewiring the ignition and that didn't work so well. It started but I couldn't get it to turn off. The kill switch didn't work and as the bike started winding up i panicked and pulled the fuel lines. In retrospect the plug wire was right there, and wouldn't have covered me in gas...
I connected the solid red wire to the solid brown, and the red/yellow to the solid blue. I left the black and black/white unconnected.
I have the wiring diagram but I can't figure out how to get the kill switch to work without having a the ignition connected... Any suggestions?

Hi, I have done the same as you, red to brown; red/yellow to blue...and my kill switch works fine as a method of stopping the bike. Perhaps your kill switch is faulty...or another wire is not connected...check behind the headlight for loose connections to the throttle switch assembly. SR

...actually another quick thought...if you have the wiring to the ignition switch still connected at the black and white/ black wire it will short out the ignition...and it won't run.

Hmmm... I might have knocked something loose when I pulled the headlight... I'll have to check it out and get back to ya.

Ah now that is more difficult...you may have to get a locksmith to have a go at it...as I recall there is possibly a key number on the lock...I think?...Yamaha may be able to help there. SR

Take a very small flat screwdriver, or a reasonable facsimile. Then, coming at the gas cap from the front, under the chrome surface you will see a flat blade looking part. Push on this blade with your chosen tool and the lock will pop open. To close, just slam shut. Hope this helps, G Man

Thanks for the tip G Man. Thankfully I found a locksmith online that will cut my key from the ref. number for $25(us). Local show wanted $90 to try and make one...

Pull your gas line and attach a longer hose to the petcock, set on prime, fill it there - it will work as long as your gas can is higher than the tank. Flushes your filter screen too. Great potential for excitement tho. = Yeah, just do the screwdriver trick. miker

May be a little late, but what is the key number you are using? I have some keys acquired over the years working in different dealerships. Could get one copied for you if I have the same number.
