I relocated the ignition switch to the headlight. All i needed to do was grind out the hole in the lamp to squeeze the switch through. Better pics this weekend.

That's a pretty cool "robomod" ;D
I've just really noticed how low your clip on bars are! Wow! Hey, what are you using for instruments? I don't notice them in the pic.

Well as far as instruments go- I use to play guitar, but now I like the drum machine and synth. lol
Last time I got pulled over, the cop had so many ticket options, so many he was confused, loud pipe, too fast, no paperwork, but when I pointed out that I had no speedo- he let it slide. Well he let everything slide, and said to take it home. Not sure if he didn't want to ticket it since I pointed it out before he did, but as far as California goes, Ive heard the correct speed is the safest speed the driver feel like driving, making speedometer useless. Doesn't make much sense to me, but I have not had gauges for a while, and I have had no real issues.
If I'm really itching to know how fast I'm going- I just use a Timex GPS speedometer wristwatch.

Robomod,
I know what you mean with confusing the cop.
Way back in 1981, while working for my local Yamaha dealer, doing pre-delivery and minor mechanical work, I fronted up with my cafe'd SR to the local registration office for a pre-registration vehicle inspection. The inspector (who I knew thru taking shop bike too for registration inspection) found 17 points which would prevent the bike being registered. These included things like having twin front discs and the discs being drilled (the rules then were that you couldn't modify braking systems), the centre distance between my indicator, the length of the rear mudguard, a modified fuel tank, a somewhat loud exhaust, and various other trivule things.
The discussion about the "faults" with the bike with the inspector, went along the lines of; if he defected my bike, I would go home and put it back to standard trim and bring it back for another inspection the next day, I would then take home my newly registered SR and put it back into the exact condition it was currently in with the 17 "defects". He then filled of the paper work listing "Nil Defects" and sent my across to the office to hand over my money.
This inspector was renowned for failing new vehicle fronted by car dealers for things like not having water in the windsheild washer bottle or for having a blown parking lamp globe. His reasoning was that if they were charging a customer up to $1000 for pre-delivery of their new car, then they should be fronting it to him with out a single fault.

Bike is looking great! What kind of mirrors are those? -Cameron Thanks Cameron- They are Tanax Napoleon Ball-joint mirrors. Kinda hard to find here in the US, but they are easy to get a hold of in Japan. Send me a PM if you want the name of my local shop- they might be able to deliver some for you. Last time I was there they were out of the rectangle mirrors. They only had round in stock. Copy and paste the whole link to go to the mfg's site. It's Japanese though. www.tanax.co.jp/cgi-bin/itemview.cgi?itemName=%83{%81[%83%8B%83W%83%87%83C %83%93%83g%83~%83%89%81[%81i%8Ap% 81j&sub=%83i%83|%83%8C%83I%83%93% 83~%83%89%81[&suburl=napoleon&ctg=%83~ %83%89%81[&ctg2=mirror ColinJay- I sure am glad they are not as strict today. A funny thing is that when I got a ticket for having ape-hangers on my harley- the cop did it because he had to, but now since the law has changed, my insurance company still wants to hold the infraction against me. In california laws come and go with the wind- it's just not good when your down-wind.

Alright- this mod is a pain in the a$$. Makes the brake light work intermittently, which is no good. This mod is null and void-lol. Though I wish it worked out.

Persevere mate. Is it due to excess vibration in the headlight casing maybe? Causing wires to touch and short out? Could you grind out a little more and dampen the vibes?
Pure speculation on my part,
