First off. Man am I glad I found you guys. I recently purchased a 78 SR500 that's been horribly mistreated and I intend on bringing her back to glory.
The left handlebar switch was shot and I purchased an aftermarket but I'm having trouble wiring the headlight. The new switch has a hi/lo "push in" button as well as an on/parking/off toggle switch. When I wire up ignoring the parking wire, my high beam works but my low doesn't. The new switch has four wires dedicated to the headlight. a high beam, low beam, parking light, and h/l main wire.
I'm also having turn signal issues but I think thats because of the "flasher cancelling Unit" on the bike because I didn't have an option to use the yellow/red wire that goes back to that unit. I'm guessing I need to bypass that unit and connect the y/r to the y/g that goes to the flasher relay but please correct me if I'm off base there.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi mate, Good to see another SR headed for a rebuild...I'm sorry that I can't really assist with your particular wiring issues for the new switch block... If you have no luck with the wiring someone here should be able to help. In some ways it is often easier to try and source an original item. I know this probably doesn't help you, but you'll most likely find that these would have been a fairly standard Yamaha item for the time. Try around wreckers or e-bay... Have fun with the bike, they're a great machine. They only stopped making the SR500's in 2003 and they still make the SR400...continuous production since 1978! SR
