I've read in several articles that it is possible to do away with the battery altogether and replace it with a capacitor to simply store a charge big enough to get the thing fired.
Any1 out there done this mod and if so what do I need and have there been any drawbacks?

I imagine it would not have to be much of a cappy, for starting purposes at least. The other day the black wire broke off my battery, and I had no trouble starting the bike. The only reason I realised something was wrong was because my indicators would not flash properly. Mick

You can use a computer grade capacitor of more than 15 volts, mine is 30, and capacity of 5000 microfarads. Lights will dim, and turn signals may not work at idle. This set up is not street legal in most places. In case your engine dies at night, you can't see, or be seen.
