Thanks gents... didn't get to run it very far tonight, just lit it up and brought it up to temp and tore a 'round the neighborhood a bit. Came back to this sunset. No more El Bastardo... thunder is kinda stickin'... or the beast. It's a wild thing on the road. Can't wait for the clubmans to get here. The mirrors are useless (thin stalks, massive vibrations!), may go for a barend mirror. One more...

Hey Ed! The noise has been getting progressively quieter as I continue to run it. And when wheels2 was over last weekend, he gave a listen and showed me an old mechanics trick used to tell where sounds are coming from in an engine (screwdriver blade contacting engine, handle to ear). It seems to be isolated on the top of the valves. No real piston knock at all. Seems it may be simply the heavy duty springs needing tighter clearances, and everything breaking in. It has a whopping 23 miles on the engine rebuild, so I'll do another valve adjustment after some more break in and see where it is then. But thankfully, looks like I won't need to yank this apart any time soon. Thanks for the compliments on the shots guys. Photography is another pursuit of mine (being a marketing designer for almost 25 years). It was nice to bring the two interests together.

Nice nice good effort and great photography too by the way . I'd like to post some pics but I haven't a clue how to do it all my efforts have been total failures . Hey theres an idea how about some of you computer literate members help some of us less fortunate computer dummies out with some of this stuff (let me out of my cave ) cheers Dave .

Good to hear the sound is going away. Usually its the other way around. You can actually buy a "mechanics stethescope" at auto supplier's. Basicallly a stethescope with a rod on the end. Indespensible when looking for bearing noises. Ed
