my cdi just went bad again. i've been running the bike with a dead battery for some time now, and suspect the strain on the charging system has contributed to the cdi dying. i'm considering going with a bat-eliminator ( or capacitor as suggested in another thread), and along with that, purchasing this hyper-pak cdi unit. (it claims to have stronger, and better timed spark). any experienced advice is greatly appreciated. also, should i upgrade to a performance coil, and if so, whose? thanks!

I haven't had any electrical trouble since I replaced my stator back in '02. I don't think it's very common to lose a cdi pack. We don't sell too many (if any) at work. I wish I had something more to offer you. There are a few aftermarket electronic ignitions available. I've seen something mentioned on them before. Hopefully someone will have some good info for you. Talk to you soon, G Man

Hi Holmes I have the battery eliminator that Mark at Thumper Stuff sells. It is a White Brothers product and is a large capacitor. I recomend it.

I was looking into it as well. Here is a quote from their FAQ page
Q..Is there any real advantage to these things other than losing a little weight? A..You get more stable voltage at all rpm's than with a good battery; you don't have to maintain and replace the battery when they go bad, and your losing a lot of weight. (Battery is 4lbs.- Bat-Pac is 2.5oz)

If anyone has used the Hyperpak, I'd like to know as well. Back in my RD days, a good spark was free (well, maybe not free) horsepower.
