:-/Help guys I need some assistance here for my 1978 sr500 e model carby problems ,,, have done the minton mods to slide fitted #20 idle jet as far as I can tell float level is fine but bike will start and idle with idle mixture screw fully shut and I use a colortune plug when running and shows too rich at idle I have as Carl suggested blown compressed air through idle jet screw hole and every other hole I can find in the standard carby , by screwing idle mixture screw in and out no noticeable difference in idle speed or colortune mixture colour !!!!!!!!Help can I take carby to anywhere to get setup properly Thanks TCi

What are you using for an air filter ,and what exhaust setup do you have? If you are using a K&N filter per Minton make sure you haven't over oiled it. Also what is your Idle speed set at? Mine is set at the recomended 1200rpm.The only other thing I can think of is that your accelerator pump diaphragm is shot or one of the other diaphragms.Thyere are 3 on the carb.I bought mine here. www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx If you live in OZ, Carl said he had 5 in stock.I figure you might be antipodean because generally we don't say carby here in the States.

I am running a supertrapp style header(Thumperstuff) and a big Supertrapp 4" muffler with 12 discs. It is pretty wide open. Also ,whichever one of the POs who did the mods on the slide filed a notch in the leading edge like the unfiled slide had. Maybe that lets in a little more air when the throttle is closed. I would definetly check those diaphragms,I changed 2 of mine just on principle. www.siue.edu/~rsutton/SR/carbmod.htm#Pilot%20Jet

Remove the vac line from the carby end just to make sure there is no fuel coming out of the fuel tap vacuum line to the carby...and ensure that the split pin is in the lower end of the accel pump and that the lever is depressed when the throttle is opened.. SR

If fuel falls out of the vacuum hose [small one] put a rebuild kit through the fuel tap, that little triangle diaphragm on the bottom of the float bowl can look OK, [no tear] but still leak fuel through at about the rate you have mentioned. regards,Carl.
