;D This is one for the dummies (in this case me !!!) I pulled the carby off and cleaned out all the crud from the float bowl and unblocked the idle jet of a clear jelly like stuff , I use shell v power petrol, while I had the carby apart I thought a good time to do the Minton mods . All went well assembled carby fitted to bike attached cables and found that the slide was half up the body of carby it was free but wouldn't sit down at bottom of travel doesn't matter what I did . Re checked carby numerous times took throttle off handle bars many times read manuals till I could quote them in my sleep !!! then the penny dropped I had swapped the cables in the throttle and on the carby "DOH" so that the shorter of the two was on the top and holding slide up , when fixed all is well and the bike will finally start all I need know is a good Chiropractor to fix my back and all will be right with the world ........so for all the dummies ,me included , don't mix up your control cables ....TC

Funny you mentiont that TC
When pulling my motor i thought I should "i should put some tape on these cables, just mark them with an "A" and "R" (return) or something......i dont have any tape......i'm sure I'll remember"
Not hard to do when you're excited abot getting things going again

Hi TC,
That's funny, in hindsight. Your post reminds me of a concern I have regarding the Minton Mods. At the base of the stock slide, on the engine side, there is a tiny rectangular notch, 1 mm deep x 2 mm wide. I'm told it's there to provide airflow at idle. If I file off .050" from the bottom of the slide, as Minton recommends, the notch will be gone (1 mm = .039 in)!
BTW, I'm thinking of trying this on my XT500, which has the VM32 carb. Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere. Eric
