Try putting a small fuel filter in the fuel line to the carb. I installed one and it does collect some crap after a few months. I've noticed different fuels make the SR run different. Here, in Ontario I use Sunoco premium most of the time.

If you leave the bike standing for a while, then drain the carby after riding and then leave it dry until you next ride it. Even go so far as to disconnect the tank from the carb if you feel it's still getting through. I do this on my 900 Honda and never have any carby problems ever. Also check that there's no water in the fuel... SR

Hi You might also want to try the prime setting on the fuel tap, maybe the fuel is leaking out or evaperating over time and there is not enough in the bowl to start the thing, maybe worth a try Mark

Hi Is there a fuel stabilizer available in your part of the world ? I used Yamahas own brand Here in the UK a 250ml bottle treats around 25gals. Great stuff to use on the bikes that dont get used that often also use it on petrol power tools like mowers & chain saws It'll keep your carbs nice & clean but Stews right draining the carbs is the best thing but I tend to forget thinking I'll use the bike next day then its sat there a month before you know it Silkolene make one too LURCH

You ride your bike less than once a week? Shame, shame, shame.

Seems kinda odd to gum up that quick. I can let mine sit 6 days and it still starts easy. I use premium 91 octane any brand, but try to find it the where hose/nozzle is seperate so theres no mix from lower octanes.
