Ok, since my motor will be out, and I want to put a 38mm mikuni on it (the Thumperstuff kit) should I get those parts first, and reassemble as a whole new unit?
Or should I see how things compare with the standard/previous carb, so I can assess the work, then switch over later (not as big a hit to the pocket at once, but double tuning effort, cable work etc etc).
Any thoughts? Probably lean to new carb and throttle straight away, just curious if anyone's regretted this previously.

Hall o milkman , if you didnot do any headwork imho there is no need for a 38mm mikuni, 36 will do fine, even on 540cc regards sjef

I would recommend the same as Sjef, a 36mm Mikuni is the best bet unless you are going all out for top end power (hot cam, hi compression etc).
