I've been thinking about the rumour of the SR going FI and you know I think it could be done in a way that doesn't take away from the "classic" look. All Yamaha have to do, is use a nice looking throttle body and it could still look like a carbied engine.

Fuel injected with engine management and exhaust gas oxygen sensor. Imagine, instead of having to go down the bike shop and take a guess at what new main jet to order when you change the air filter or exhaust, you can just let the computer make 20 or 30 decisions per second as to how much fuel the bike needs to get the right mixture. And a knock sensor. No more messing with octane boosters and stuff. Let the computer decide when to fire the bike. Hope its available soon. I'd be really keen to see what could be done with retro fitting the whole lot to the 500. Mick

I agree, a fuel injection system, with a decent engine management system would be nice on the SR. However, most production (read, built to a budget/lowest cost) generally don't have the self adjusting abilities to cope with major tuning changes. They can generally adjust the fueling 5 - 10% either side of the nominal setting, so you can still end up with an engine that will run a bit lean or rich once you have done some work too it. This is why there is such a big market for the aftermarket EPROM chips for performance bikes and cars.

If your SR is running properly you should never need to use your hot start button and rather than spend $1000's on engine management systems book an hour on a dyno and they will give you a print out with all the info to rejet etc. new member Singlespinner

Triumph's 2008 model bonnevilles have FI, and have made the throttle body look like fuel injection You can't tell the without looking closely at both models.
