I rode my bike to work today and then home for lunch. After sitting for about an hour, I went out to my garage to a potent fuel smell. My '79 bike was sitting over a puddle of fuel. I left the petcock turned on like normal and it appeared that the hose from the carburettor was just dripping at a crazy rate.
I dont know much about the mechanics of this carburettor or any for that matter. Except for a little DT175, all my vehicles have been FI. What is that drain hose for and why would the carburettor keep pulling fuel from the tank? Could my throttle have kept on, flooded it and it just overflowed?
Also, my handlebars were turned left. When the engine is running, I get more throttle when the bars are turned left. apparently, it manipulates the throttle cable enough to pull it some. When i first got the bike, i tried stuffing the throttle cable under the tank which DID NOT work.
I started the bike and it just sat and revved at like 5K RPM till I shut it off and figured it out.
Any ideas on any of this stuff? TIA for the help.
