Hi, Do you know what type of carburettor it is fitted with? What model SR is it? See if we can set you right. SR

Just choke it when its cold & give her a good kick in the guts (mine will take about 3 kicks to get it going after sitting for a month or 2) When its hot press up the white hot start button till it clicks into place (hold open the throttle a whisker to keep it on) set the window & give it to her it should start . There is a knack to be learnt there is also a few threads on this subject so have a browse , cheers Dave.

First things first mate. Learn the starting technique. Otherwise you sould waste hours of valuable riding time messing around with your carb, when there might be bugger all wrong with it. I ease the old girl just over compression, with the decomp lever, then I let the lever go, take a fresh bit eo n the kickstart lever, and give it a serious boot all the way through until the lever contacts the stopper on the footpeg mount. If cold use choke, no throttle. If hot, no choke, no throttle, but if being difficult, push the hotstart button up. The object of ensuring you swing it all the way through is that the kickstart lever disengages at the end of the stroke, so if you do that you very much minimise the likelihood of the bike booting you back. haha, my bikes totally different!!!!!
if cold: no choke, tiny throttle if hot: no choke, lots of throttle
all this is after holding in the decomp lever and working it round till the marker's in view in the indicator window and giving her a good hard kick all the way down.
i can actually kick start the old girl by hand too. which is nice.

kickstarting by hand.........I've seen a few peole mention they can do that here. That would never be possible on mine....which has me wonderng if its entirely happy.
Mate, like they all say, I would learn your bikes trick before you mess with the carb. I couldn't get mine going for months, then one day I read some different techniques here, and now I get it going.
I roll mine back in first gear until its on compression - ie wont roll back any further. Move it forward enough to get it in neutral, and then kick hard. No thottle.
Good luck.

Most important thing is to leave the throttle alone when kicking - you don't want the accel pump to flood it.

No worries mate...anytime.
These are not your average bikes and sometimmes can be a little problematic when you first start...good to see you're 'over the hump'...heh, heh.
To a degree, like most bikes, they don't like sitting around without being ridden.
Enjoy the riding.

I agree Stew , my SR doesn't mind a month or 2 off though . I just give the battery a charge overnight ,put on the choke it'll fire second kick & bursts into life on the third . But when I get it going I'll usually take it for a 50k run coz I just cant stop myself . Hmm I think I'll go n charge the battery just in case I get some leave on the weekend (check out the high moving into the bight). Flooding in NSW & summer over here, wheres the justis cheers from Dave.
