I've been doing some searching on the internet and I'm not sure if the carb on my 1980 is stock or not. the carb i have doesn't look like this www.siue.edu/~rsutton/SR/mikuni.htmit looks like this So do i have an xt500 carb? What are the advantages or disadvantages?

It certainly doesn't look SR but who really knows with all the different stuff they did with the imports at the time . The Aussie SR carb looks like the one in your link . Does it run ? Cheers Dave .

yeah it runs pretty well but then again i have only ridden it around the block a few times. I'm just wondering if i should switch to a stock carb for any reason

It is a stock TT500 or XT500 carb. They are basically the same. Work about the same as the SR500 carb but no accelerator pump. Should be fine. I run one on my 77 XT500 that is from a 79 TT500 and rejeted to match a much bigger exhaust and some other breathing mods. Main jets are standard Mikuni and can be found almost anywhere. I would stick with it if its working properly.

Looks like stock 32mm XT carb.
