Gents, I have run into a minor snag with my 1981 XT500 throttle. The throttle tube (that white plastic tube that is usually hidden by thge twist grip) is cracked and broken. At a pinch it could be used, but I'd rather get a new one. Local dealer can order genuine part for $45 for a little bit of plastic. However, he can get after market for less than $20, except his catalogue does not list one for the 500. Does anyone know if a WR400/450 one would fit? Mick

Hi Mick, This or something similar might be the way to go, unless you want it right now. Postage would be cheap...they weigh nothing. It is probably unlikely that the WR one would go real close as it is probably a QA throttle and may have a larger diameter cable drum. It could even be a different width there as well. The only way to find out is to compare the two side by side. I would imagine that a Yam shop may have a genuine WR/YZ one's in stock to compare. Yam parts like most of the others aren't real cheap at retail prices. You may have to just bite the bullet... I bought two little chrome caps for the cam cover gasket on the cam ends of a Bol d'or Honda the other day...$25 each, and that was discounted from over $30...still if you want them you can be stuck! Thanks Stew, I bit the bullet and ordered genuine. I figured if I really tried I could find out interchangeability on the net, but I could spend hours to save maybe $30. And he's been pretty good with everything else, so I figure what the heck. Had an add up last night, and I reckon I still will come in at $2000 on the road, which I reckon is pretty good for a tidy low mileage XT. Its all the little stuff that adds up anyway. Its amazing how much you can spend on stripper, turps, primer, paint and washers and bolts, eh? What amazes me the most though is how hard it is to buy metric bolts and nuts in this town, especially when you consider the metric system has been law in this country for 30 years now. Its just in the last 6 weeks that one of hard ware stores has just started carrying a small assortment of metric allen head bolts. Got about $400 left to spend. Tank repairs, aircleaner, throttle tube, paint the side covers and register the beast. Mick

Hi, Yes sometimes it's the best thing to do...rebuilds always seem to cost more than you bargained for. I'd hate to think how much this new cafe racer is costing me. SR
