Man it's a beautiful day today! Gotta love 80° in the winter! First chance I've had to take my '78 with the rebuilt top end out for a little longer cruise. It was a flat-out blast! Plus the roads were nice and clear in my area because of the Super Bowl (with the Chargers out, it doesn't hold a lot of interest for me). Overall the bike was plain fun to ride. Turning it in compared to my Suzuki (which is still very flickable) was nuthin'. It rides pretty straight and true (no handed it a couple of times at various speeds to see how it tracked). A couple of things I noticed:
1) I think it'll need it's second valve adjustment since the rebuild. No big, and expected.
2) Had put a new chain on as well, and the rear end seems a little squirrely, which I've read can be a new chain thing. A few more miles down the road, I'll re-adjust after some break in.
3) I mainly kept her under 3500 rpm, but took 'er up a couple of times, and she felt pretty good. A lot left to give in 3rd and 4th. A lot.
4) I still think I need to dial in the timing. She's a tad rough at idle.
5) I think I need to either up the fork oil from 15w to 20w (dropped in new prog susp. springs recently too), or dial down the progressive suspension shocks, as the front feels a little softer than the rear (may account for the squirreliness too). I'm going to try the shocks first. She's so light that a harder ride may make her more wiggly (just a guess).
6) For some reason whilst all this work on her was going on she's developed a sticky throttle. Cable lube time.
Again, just plain fun. But of course I'm preachin' to the choir ;D. I can't rememebr how many miles to break her in. It's here on the site somewhere I think. Over and out thumper kids...
