Has anyone done the Minton mods to their stock SR carb (78-79)? I'm putting my '78 back to stock, but I'm thinking of at least doing that mod to the carb ( www.siue.edu/~rsutton/SR/carbmod.htm ), and going to a K&N in the stock airbox. The part that concerns me is shaving down the slide with a file. Anyone done this? Why go back to stock? Just because. Thanks! Gary

Gary... I have performed these exact mods to my '78 stock carb with great success. The bike has been easy to start, maintains a great idle and gets fantastic mileage. However, I had the slide cut down by a machinist friend of mine for accuracy. He did it quick as a flash. This and boring out a fuel nozzle only cost something like $10.00 bucks. Money well spent. The only other repair I had to do to my carb was swap out the inlet needle assembly. Other than that, the carb has been working completely maintenance free.

Thanks G Man! I was curious about those mods. I read that article very early in my SR500 ownership saga, and just reread it when I decided to put my '78 back to stock. Thankfully the previous owner kept all the stock parts and gave them to me with the bike. A machine shop DEFINITELY sounds like the way to go on the slide cut down! Are you running a stock air filter, K&N in the stock box, no airbox?

Planning on doing this mod on my bike.
Qt: How much did you machine of the slide. Did this on my BSA, mostly on trial and error.
Thank you
