Hi, I have Mic 38's on two of mine and they work really well.
If you are going to do what you indictate to the engine then probably either would do. If you're after more mid and lower end possibly the 36...if you're after mid to top end the 38. It also depends on the cam as well. You are able to buy these carbs ready setup for the SR's in the US.
I am also doing up another bike and engine at the moment; I have a Kei Hin CRS38 for it. These are really beautiful carbs. It is a kit that comes from Japan also specially made for the SR.
...for me though....38's.

Hi, I have several sets of 38mm figures here and I'll give you some:
Tingate settings:
main jet - 270 pilot Jet - 35 needle - 6F8-middle needle jet - P6 cutaway - 7MM (from bottom).
My Black Cafe racer:
main jet - 270 pilot Jet - 30 needle - 6F8-middle needle jet - P4 cutaway - 1.5 cutaway (on slide).
The carby in my black CR is one from a TZ 350. It is a 38mm powerjet carby that I have blocked the PJ off in. It certainly has a better 'bellmouth' entry than the aftermarket ones.
I also understand that the Yam carbs have slightly different dimensions on the slides as well...so you have to use Yam ones. I have never confirmed this though...well, as far as I can remember anyway...
The Sudco ones are easily available and cheap.
I helped a guy do a 38mm Sudco one, I changed slides, needles, NJ's (...emulsion, non-emulsion, etc.) until it was perfect...then I forgot to write the results down...I still wish I'd done it...ah well.
The slide cutaway makes a really big difference and can really assist to get it perfect..but no figures for that one...
Hope that helps somewhat...
