I have just repainted the frame of a bike I recently bought. I put the engine back into it without really doing anything to it, apart from removing the carbie and cleaning it. The bike ran before I touched it, but now it won't start and I was wondering if I should not use the additive I put into the fuel. The additive works fine in my Triumph. I don't know what fuel the previous owner was using. I have heard that additives can make the engine hard to start. The problem could be -- probably is -- the carbie, but I'm sure I put it back together correctly. I need to eliminate the additive issue. Any ideas or help would be really appreciated?

Well, mine needed like 50 kicks last night, 2 kicks the time before, and I'd changed nothing... but I'm still learning it.
Additives, I suspect that the engine would at least pop regardless of what you put in the gas. You could spray some engine starter (ether) in the carb mouth, see if that makes it pop - if so, you might not be getting any gas at all thru the carb.
See what your spark looks like, of course.

Len,
Hi. If you are talking about an octane additive for the SR then it doesn't need it. The bike was designed from the outset to run on unleaded.
If you boost the compression then it may be a different matter...

hallo len , check the the ignition/spark etc if you don not trust the carb take another one you know it is oke. take fresh fuel i had poblems with an old xv 1000. carbs were ultrasonic cleaned, turned out to be the plugcaps (altough there was a spark when ckecked, but apparently not always when running)
