G'day to all,
Was passing the time with another rider recently and the subject of having to put an additive into the unleaded fuel for car engines designed to run on leaded petrol came up. As unleaded fuel did not start here in Australia until the late 80's I assumed my SR's would need the lead replacement additive and have been using one.
My mate said that unleaded fuel was around in the rest of the world well before it was introduced here and as such the SR's were designed to run on unleaded in the first place as the same engine spec was used worldwide.
Can any of you learned SR devotees verify this and am I wasting my money putting in the additive?

Hi Brian, Yes your mate is right. The SR was designed from the outset to use unleaded and as such has the hardened valve seats.
I use super (hi-octane) unleaded my self, but you can use either. When leaded fuel was around I also used super petrol. In my SR's I own with the high comp pistons I still use AVGAS or a 50/50 mixture to stop pinging...instant torque.
Great bikes!
