Well, my SR500H still won't go over 75 mph and is running way too lean. Stock exhaust is installed but was doing the same with the Supertrapp. I've had the carb on and off half a dozen times. I've checked for good fuel flow, I've replaced all diaphragms, replaced the float needle/seat, cleaned, etc. I've set the fuel level higher, lower and in between. I've changed the main to a #280 (260 is stock). I've shaved .050" off the slide and raised the needle 1mm.The darn plug still stays white after all my 14 mile test rides. I've checked for a vacuum leak by plugging the port to the petcock and running it in the prime position, still no joy. I've sprayed carb cleaner on the intake manifold with it running at idle to check for a vacuum leak, still no joy. I've done everything I could do short of a dance around the bike with a rattle and chicken bones. A previous owner had changed the CDI, so I checked to see if the replacement was correct figuring the advance curve could be wrong. The unit it has now is a 3HI-51. The Yam parts listing shows a 3HI-50. I'm guessing the current one is an up-grade as it has a plastic vs. metal housing. Anyone have anymore ideas before I spring for an aftermarket carb? Bronson7

I've done everything I could do short of a dance around the bike with a rattle and chicken bones. Bronson7 I'm liking that idea! I am on my way out to my shop right now to give it a try around mine! ;D Seriously though... Have you checked the compression? (I am sure you have) Are you able to perform a leak down test? I am suspicious that there is an amount of loss internally causing the lack of power. We just had this sort of circumstance on a 660 Grizzly atv in our shop and were un-sure of the problem until we did a leak down test. Compression appeared to be o.k., but we had excessive piston to cylinder clearance due to worn piston and rings causing a real lack of top end. One size over-bore, new piston and rings and the unit is flying like it used to! G Man

GMan, I did a compression check on it a couple of days ago and I got 130 psi. I might have been able to get more but I think I sprang a leak in my tester. Heck, I couldn't even kick it over the compression stroke with my 230 lbs. Anyway, I'm not burning any oil and the bike pulls fairly strong, It just acts and shows the classic signs of not getting enough gas. Even with lower compression, I would expect to see color on the plug especially since all the things I've done to it could only enrich it. Doing a leak down test sounds like a good idea. I'd have to buy a tester. I think my Dad has a compressor that will furnish the required flow/pressure. How are you restraining the rotor (flywheel) while doing the test? What would be a maximum pressure drop for the SR? I guess that's measured in %. Bronson7
