I am going to buy mandrell bends to make a pipe for my track bike and was looking at 1 3/4" pipe. I think this is the right size for a modded motor????it will be down swept into a reverse meg.

Hi fenz, from memory 1 5/8" is a port match. Start with that size, and get the pipe guy to expand the end to 1 3/4 and go from there. Basic extractor. Cheers Franky b.

Hi fenz, from memory 1 5/8" is a port match. Start with that size, and get the pipe guy to expand the end to 1 3/4 and go from there. Basic extractor. Tubing is sold based on OD. 1.75" tube with a .049" wall has an ID of 1.652" and with a .063" wall ID is 1.624" (1 5/8 = 1.625"). To the best of my knowledge all aftermarket pipes for the Yamaha 500 series are based on 1.75" head tubes. I have a spread sheet set up using calculations provided Circle Track magazine for designing headers that shows the peak torque range for a given header design. A pipe made from 1.625 x .049' tube will produce peak torque at about 4600 rpm based on a 36" long pipe. The same design using 1.750" tube produces peak torque at about 5500 rpm. All else being equal, the longer the pipe the lower the peak torque rpm and vice versa. Good luck. PC
