I have been reading the threads and the concensus seems to be the BSA Gold Star silencer replica is the way to go for a replacement pipe...but how loud is it??
I have an old Ducati which I am embarrassed to start before 10am and I do not want my SR to be the same. However, the note from the standard pipe is less than inspiring.
cheers

;DHi I have a standard (mostly) cafe racer SR500 and running a BSA Goldstar muffler it depends how high you rev it it sounds very nice at idle not too loud at all and I don't get any complaints at all from neighbours at all even one with a brand new baby. TC

Thanks TC, that sounds perfect. Where did you buy yours from? Is there anyone in Aus who imports them or is it just as easy to order from the UK?

hi to both of you, i too run a goldy, fell in love with the deep sound from day one, thing is to use a bit of common sense as to where and when to 'give it some'.i love an early morning weekend ride on my own[dont get me wrong,i've got plenty of mates!]but i do use the absolute minimum revs when firing it up outside my house and jump on it quickly easing it along the streets until i reach the open road, but i reckon the best noise is 1 on the overrun coming upto an island and 2 listening to it resonate of the side of houses in built up areas at low grunty revs!!!!! of course a bit later in the day.without doubt the best silencer for the sr that i've tried in terms of performance and definitely sound. regards, andy

Neighbours are just that , the just live so that guys with motorbikes can annoy them & that is our job to do so , so let it rip fellas remove your baffles & rev your engines ! Cheers Dave. PS all exhaust systems sound good on SRs but some do sound a little better than others . I've got a great selection to choose from now but I'm not sure of their names other than sidepipe, straight, trumpet, mega &hotdog . I'm sure that my neighbours are going to enjoy every test run with me ha ha .

Is the Goldie muffler a baffle type or glasspak? Anyone know a US source? I have a Dunstall-copy glasspak on now and love the sound... giant lawnmower at low revs, V1 buzzbomb at cruise. miker

I have a muffler from Redline exhausts in Adelaide. I guess you would call it a revers cone. The chrome has disappointed me a bit, but although it is quite quiet, it does give the ol' girl that lovely subsonic boom that makes you think "thumper" as soon as you hear it coming up the road. mick

Although someone here may be able to help you, I believe you have come across this forum in error. Not much here about BSA. If you should have a Yamaha SR500, I'm sure many here can help.
