G'day to all, Can anyone, probably someone from Oz, enlighten me to the relationship between serial numbers and prefix's and how they relate to Australian models. I have two SR's. One with a large headlight and drum back brake, one with a smaller headlight and disc back brake. Can anyone tell me if they are E, F, G or H? I cannot go by the plates on the steering stem as they have been rendered unreadable by the cables and wiring rubbing on them. Thanks, Brian

Hallo Brian, here is a list of serialnumbers jmhauchard.free.fr/technique/numerosr.htmlthe number should be stamped in the steering neck, and if the engine is not swapped should be the same as the engine number. regards sjef

Brian, Hi. They only imported 4 models of SR into Aus.
'78 - E model, black (...well metallic black with a small sized gold flake through it...) and a thin gold stripe at the bottom of the tank and across the rear of the seat. Small light and discs all round.
'79 - F model, same but with a tank stripe that curved around the front of the tank to the top.
'80 - G model, metallic red paint with a GT type curved stripe on the tank. Large light and drum on rear.
'81 - H model, black paint with a red inlaid panel on each side of the tank surrounded by white stripes. Large light and rear drum.
The wheels were all aluminium mag types. All had slightly different detail frames (...the E model changed some brakets and re-inforcing details after the early run as well...) ...
I guess the engine and frame numbers you already have now.
As an aside, I hear that Rod Hunwick (owner of Action M/C's) may be going to import some SR's into the country soon, as well as some of the Japanese custom parts. I also hear that he may operate out of a separate SR's-only shop in Sydney and not out of Action....might be interesting news for us SR types.

Thanks Stew and Sjef,
It appears I have a repainted (all plain black) 78E and a standard 81H.
Yes it is good news about the imports, might have something to add to the Christmas wish list available. Let us all know if it happens.
