Hi folks, Just a short note to encourage SR owners to contribute to this site. It's a great complement to the club sites currently on line, including the SR500 club of Australia. I'm the (painfully slow) editor of its newsletter so will pass on SR info as it becomes available. The next issue of the club newsletter actually reveals the identity of the SR500 designer. It was previously ascribed to "GK Dynamics", a design consultancy used by Yamaha, but we've got the real deal responsible person and it's an interesting story. Watch this space and stay involved in one of history's great bikes. Groff

Thank you Groff for the kind words on the forum. The success of any online community is dependent on a friendly, knowledgable and co-operative member group. We are off to a fantastic start with the small group we already have! SR owners and riders are a special group of people with a wide variety of interpretations of a great motorcycle. We encourage all motorcyclists to join our humble forum to see what the "single life" is like! (My wife will smile when she reads that!) Many would be more than surprised to see what life is like on a wonderful, light, reasonably powerful and relatively in-expensive bike. The old adage, "try it, you'll like it" rings true! P.S. I will be eagerly awaiting the story you have for us on the origins of the SR. Talk to you soon, G man

Hi Grant.
Have you still got the Tingate SR?
Wonder what it would cost to import a couple of late model SR's from Japan and get them on the road? It'd be nice to have an almost new one again.
I love SR's...

I just came across this website last night. It's nice that SR500's are such a cult bike now. I bought my 79 SR new in 1980. The dealer had three and was trying to get rid of them fast. I paid $1,800 for it new. I,ve ridden it for 25 years on and off and it now has over 60,000km. on it. It was off the road for a couple of years while I rode a Suzuki GS1000, and again when it's stator burn't out (no spark). I bought another 79 SR for $1000 to fix the ignition problem because the dealer wanted $650 for a new stator. Good thing, because I've used a lot of parts off the second SR. It's a USA model, the graphics are a little different than mine (Canadian model)

There is a company in Holland that sells a multitude of SR500 performance parts. Their website is really interesting. It's www.evamotor.nl
