I assume you mean the big hose that runs around the engine under the shift shaft? Kinda the long way around for that one... Looks like vacuum from the intake port (small black hose) is being used to switch... something... on and off. Could the forward end of the big hose be going to the exhaust port? An atempt to recycle fuel-rich exhaust gases on overrun (or other high vacuum times) Dang, I'm glad my bike doesn't have one, whatever it is! miker

From 2001 model, to pass the emission control, SR is equipped the AIS (Air Induction System), as you know. But some don't like how it looks. So the WM, one of most populer SR parts manufacturer, have made "hidden AIS" which makes your new SR look simple and also pass the emission control.

So is this pipe just pumping air into the exhaust to reduce the emissions, and get by an emissions test. I guess there's no real decrease in emissions though, it's just mixed with air.

Looks suspiciously like Exhaust Gas Recirculation to me. Exhaust would be under slight positive pressure, and inlet under slight negative pressure. Maybe? Mick

As Akira said, it's an aftermarket AIS system. My bike has the original factory unit and the difference is that the hos goes back to the AIS unit, which is in turn attatched directly to the airbox. It's not just a case of pumping clean air into the exhaust to dilute the emissions. What the fresh air actually does is allows unburnt fuel in the exhaust to burn, reducing hydrocarbons in the exhaust gases. Here's a diagram of the stock unit:

Hi Guys,
Does this gadget improve the efficiency of the motor, ie better mileage or better power?
Cheers, Mikec.

Neither. It simply burns off hydrocarbons in the exhaust gases to lessen pollution.
