So, I've been down to gremlins, voodoo and wicken spells on my '79 cafe bike's motor. Today I thought, you know, despite that being a BRAND NEW (well it's over a year old now, but it's never run!) PRE-JETTED FROM SUDCO Mikuni VM38 on there, maybe I should swap it out for the other VM38 that I just bought from them for my TT500.
BAM!! For a couple of seconds the bike fired. Then I lost it, letting the throttle go back to idle.
BUT IT STARTED!!! It was the brand new carb. I guess in combo with the timing I fixed over the weekend. So, I've been chasing two problems on this beast. But, there is a small glimmer of light... ;D

Not this time... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I wish you guys could hear this thing... it is so flippin' LOUD  I'm sure I just pi$$ed of everyone in my neighborhood. Just had to fiddle with air mixture screw and idle on carby and it ain't no ol' "el bastardo" no more...   Thanks for all your patience and help guys. I would have thrown in the towel many moons ago without ya'll. Now to give this beast a proper name... PS: That 90mm piston seems like it's trying to bang it's way through the top of the motor... Mate, that is some Black Magic you worked on that bike.
My experience with kids naming things is that it usually sticks.
So maybe go with something thunder based....and play ACDC's song of the same name over and over in your head as you gun around town.

Thanks gents! I'm hopeful the jetting is close. I paid extra at Sudco.com to have them pre-jet it to the bike specs. 'Course it seems they sent me a faulty first one to begin with, so who knows! christer, it's got a JE Pistons 90mm piston, Webcam #88 grind cam, RD valves springs and retainers. Beyond that it's breathing through a 38mm VM and blowing through a 1 3/4" NOS White Bros. heahd pipe and 3" IDS SuperTrapp. And it's running the Bat-Pac battery eliminator. (At this point it's also running about a 55 gal. drum's worth of my combined elbow grease, sweat and spit sprayed through clenched teeth as I curse it out one more time !) I do have stuff to sort though... I went back out later just to fire it up and make sure it wasn't a dream and it started right up again, but this time... no lights. Hmmmm. So I'll ride in the daytime for now! ;D I really do appreciate you guys kicking in the encouragement through the process. Gotta go download ACDC's "Thunder" and crank it up  |
