Davey,
You are correct with the way the sizes are coded. for a 110/80, 110 is the width of the tyre and 80 is the aspect ratio, ie the height is 80% of the width.

Heh heh. My local shop will sell me Kendas for $50 a pop and install them free I might go with that, even though they're crap, and then get BT45's in the size I really want once I'm used to the bike. I'll probably do some silly jazz like spray the sidewalls white on the kendas and generally be all ghetto about it .

I use BT045 for racing and fitted a 120/80 18 to the rear and it is too big for the rim. You will never get to use the edge of the tyre as it gets pulled around too much when fitted to a skinny rim and your contact patch will be smaller.
I would suggest the 110/90 x 18 for the rear
