Hi jbass, flattrackers lokk really good on a flattrack, but hedlights, mirrors and indicators sort of spoil the look of them. Most flattrack bars run about 34 inches wide, not real good in heavy traffic, and verry tiring when riding at a constant high speed,(your upper body turn into a big windsock). If it was me id go the cafe, lot more styling options available, and they look right at home on the road. A tracker on the tar looks like a fish out of water. Or you could build one of each. cheers franky b.

Both the Flat Track & The Cafe can be quite interesting, but I'm looking in a different direction. Has anyone ever seen a 50's BSA Gold Star? Well, if not I'll try to locate a decent picture to post. Once, I found a website that dealt with an SR500 built to look similar to the 500 Gold Star Single. If I can't go that way, I figure to go with the Flat Track style with maybe a little Cafe flair to it.
Later on, Bill

Just do a google image search on BSA Goldstar. Lots of good pictures.
You could even go for the original upright style Goldstar if you want cafe styling with a near flat-track riding position.
There's a few guys on this forum with BSA's who might point you in the direction of some good models to base it off.

I have seen two of the SR500/BSA gold stars over the last few weeks, Not your 50's variety but the new versions being sold now (or the parts may have been old stock???). In Japan (and other places i'm sure) you can buy the BSA with the SR500 engine. Lots of SR parts but the frame and chassis is different. You can buy them here in Kit form, so you buy the frame and parts seperately and build them up how you like. I may have a pic as one was parked next to an SR i got some photo's of. But i think everyone has seen them anyway.

Hi all,
Having a cafe'd SR with a fairly extreme riding position, the rear sets that I made are probably a little bit too high, I would just like to offer the following thought, "think of your KNEES"!! The last time I really rode it was to the Superbikes at Phillip Island in 2001. On the way home I made it 1/2 way back to melbourne (about 1 hr ride in the traffic) before I was in agony from having my knees folded right back. But then I'm 6'4" tall and have knackered knees from to many crashes and broken legs.
Have you though of building a supermotad style, I am in the early stages of building one up using a modified TT500 frame, and might finish it sometime in the next few years if money allows.

Re: the BSA GoldSR 500,
These bikes were made by BSA Regal in Southampton (?) in the UK. I stopped in and checked them out in 2001 while over there in 2001. Very freindly people although they would not sell me just a frame, tank and seat and I could neither afford or get a complete bike back to OZ. I have some picture and some details of the bike some place at home, I will try and find and post them.
