Older Aussie riders will remember Stone the movie, probably the first ever Aussie biker movie, looks very corny now, but was a cult classic in its day. Any way, all you Oz bikers of a certain vintage, do the Stone style bikini fairngs fit on an SR with standard looking handle bars, and do they cause the front end to shake? Mick

Hi. I had one of those fairings on my CB450...back in '71 or so...prior to the movie coming out....they were a nice looking fairing for a handlebar fairing and were made by Homebush fibreglass in Sydney...they're still going today. They didn't result in any problems with the handling of the 450 at all...never tried one on the SR though..I have a Ducati SS fairing on one of my SR'S and this works beautifully. And adds a (fair) few K's to the top end as well... SR

Hi, Yes pretty flash aren't they...good music as well. It made me want to go there and give the DCM a blast...corrosion frightens me, but I guess that coupious supplies of RP7 or WD40'd sort that out... SR

After seeing these vids, I would luv to go to Lake Gairdner in 2007, if only to watch and soak up the atmosphere. I think I could become a real rev head very quickly, just from being there! And it's not too far from Melbourne - only 1300km each way!!A producer in Tasmania made a video of the Lake Gairdner speed trials, but only the 2004 event. I'm still waiting for him to make a 2006 video. www.stripeydog.tvRgdz CL

PS See the Deus rider (Nigel Begg?) reach down and grab the fork slider, reminiscent of Mert Lawwill in "On Any Sunday"!
Class!

Yep. Poor excuse. 1300km is nothing compared to what Burt did - Invercargill to Bonneville!

Hi, From talking to Nigel he's definitely a tracker fan from way back... He's got a Harley 750 flat-head US mile bike, plus some Yam 500 dirt track bikes...flash old machines... I'd love an XR750....they do sound great...I raced against a couple of them on the mile at Morgan in the late '70's...went like a rocket in a straight line but didn't turn well with no back brakes...the Aus. sliders still ruled the roost...didn't need to slow for the corners! I really love the flat trackers aswell. Me and my cousin used to siulate "On Any Sunday" around the flatest paddock we had (not very) on our Postie bikes. The cow mde it interesting, but strategic use of the cow pads cold give you the cornering adavntage.
I should ask in general forum, but any flat tracker sites/books etc you guys can recommend?
Hard to sort the wheat from the chaff in the search engines...

Hi, I reckon that Deus has some books on the subject on sale at Camperdown...worth a look. They also sell the Japanese customised SR books as well...now they're really good to get a look at... SR

Anyone know where I can get a copy of that movie? I live in Canada, and no one has ever heard of it, let alone carry it.

Thats only about $11 CAD, plu postage. I'd say you can't go wrong.
Even if it seems outdated, if you like bikes, you'll enjoy it
