Just inhereted my first street bike, my fathers 1979 SR 500 with 4,000 original kilometers. Problem is, it's in Ontario Canada and I live in Central Valley Califonia. So the plan is to fly back home in August 07 then drive the bike to Sturgis meet some friends and drive back to CA. On a thumper that should be interesting, to say the least. Cheers, Fred

[glow=red,2,300]WELCOME TO THE SR500 FORUM FRED![/glow]
Wow, low mileage SR. Anywhere in Ontario to California is definately going to be a long ride on a single for sure! From where I am, Sturgis is about half way there.
Looking forward to hearing about your adventure.
Talk to you soon, G Man

Here is a picture of when I got it started after 2 years sitting in the garage. Should have seen the color of the gas coming out of the carburator (of course drained it and put in some fresh gogo juice) I'll make a webblog of this expedition, should be very interesting. Mark from Thumper Stuff was very nice and as given me some solid advice on parts I will need for this trip. Fred

Nice looking 5ton1 ! Clean the carbie , give it a run , dump the oil , put in some good fresh oil & ride like the wind ! I don't know how far you're going but I bet you will double the odo reading ?

Looks like you have the rarest SR500 of all. A mint original bike. I urge you to give serious thought to keeping it that way, and score a rat bike with which to indulge your urges to modiy and customise. Good luck on the long ride. Mick

wow, those are some great pictures. I wish the story had ended better for ya. I'm glad you're alright though. Known head shake? This is the first I've heard of it. I'm a noob when it comes to the SR still though. any more details on that?

I'm not familiar with the head shake either? Maybe I haven't had mine fast enough.
I'm assuming you mean a bad speed wobble?
Hope you don't go sour on the old girl for throwing you over. At least she waited till you put your lid back on
