Hi Andy,
I'm 62 and my daughters are in their thirty's. When my daughters were younger and played video games they would put my name in as Daddio. It stuck ever since. By the way one of their favorite games was Nintendo excite bike, a motorcycle game.

Hey Daddio, (I feel like a refugee from the 60s hailing you that way...far out man,) you're going to like that TLS front brake once it's all set up. They look great too and no more messing with hydraulics! A bonus. There won't be room for that enormous rack on a street tracker style bike. Haven't seen one that big on an SR before. Reminds me of my commuter days, when a rack was essential equipment. Hang on to the Hagons, they're great shocks! If you didn't know about the founder, Alf Hagon, he's worth looking up. hagon-shocks.co.uk/about/Keep us posted on progress

Hi SteveP, A friend of mine has a SR500 tracker which inspired me to take on this project. He let me take it for a ride and I was hooked. It has the TLS setup and I knew I had to find one. It took a very long time to find one. It wasn't cheap and shipped from Germany. I am definitely keeping the Hagons. Not sure what springs are in the front. I have no history on the bike. I bought it from a estate sale. I would like to go with progressive springs, what do you think? The pic is of my friends bike that inspired me.

Your machine looks totally stock as you bought it, (apart from rack and bar end mirrors,) so quite possible you have factory springs in the forks. You can play with the weight of oil to give preferred damping and you can also add some pre-load if needed in the form of a small stack of washers bolted together and placed on the top of the springs. I have no experience of progressive springs but they are a popular go-to and perhaps you'll get someone chime in with their take on setting them up. Going to be an interesting build. Hope you'll keep all the stock parts in case you want to revert to a more stock look. If it were kept stock apart from the wheels, it would have the 'euro' look. Some narrow bars would add to that and maybe some rearsets. (Mine came from Japan with both as standard, and of course the TLS with alloy rims. ) You have the early type oil feed to the head, with the banjo attaching to the rear of the head on the right hand side. Yamaha amended that to take the oil feed to the exhaust rocker spindle. There are aftermarket oil lines that feed both inlet and exhaust spindles. Consider one of those options as soon as you can. Your present set up was not deemed sufficient oiling and was soon changed. Your friend's machine has the later factory oil line to the exhaust spindle that became the standard item.

SteveP Thanks for your tips and input, I appreciate all the info. I have always been a Honda guy and this is my first Yamaha. I am grateful for forums like this, I spent many hours reading the posts here and learned a lot. I thought it was about time I join. Maybe with this project I'll have something to contribute also.
I plan on keeping the engine stock. I had read about the oil feed line issue and plan on upgrading it.
I found one of your posts that has pics of your bike. That is a great looking bike!

Welcome to the madness Daddio - I have a feeling you're going to fit right in! Looks like you picked up a nice one to start with, and I like the direction you're taking with it!

Thanks Pops
I appreciate the welcome. Seems like a lot of good people here.
I had to defer from the SR today. I put some forward controls on my Honda CMX1100T. I got tired of getting cramps in my legs. Not as limber as I used to be.

Hello Mate,
Very nice, look forward to seeing progress on the bike. If the previous owner has fitted Hagons, which are excellent shocks, he has probably looked after it well. +1 on the oil feed conversion, definitely a worthwhile mod. Good luck with your build and post plenty of pics.

Tried my hand at polishing today. Front TLS hub brake side before and after pics. I will be removing the spokes next and polish the hub and rim. Then re-lace with new spokes.

Completed the wheels. Front polished, re-laced and trued. The back is from a SR400. The brake hub clearcoat was bubbled so I stripped it and polished it. The rest just some cleanup and checked runout. Mounted the Dunlops and installed on the bike for mock up.
