Ran the TUX and decided since I had ATG on to give the SR a go, it lives! Ran it down the highway, feeling out each gear, and up to 55mph. All seems good, steady and solid. Me, ummm, pretty nervous.....

Been considering how to proceed.... This morning dawned as lovely late summer day here, all ready. ATG and a plan, stick to the wide highways with good visibility and a destination/purpose. Did 37mi. round trip on the W650 with a bit more confidence, though not the previous ease. The shoulder held up well, not so much the ribs, the home stretch was painful even though the W has a nice suspension and I stayed out of the rough spots.

Im done, this is it, hanging up my helmet Went for a short around the block on my TU250X and had a couple doe jump out of the tree line and short ditch right into the road And STOP. I got hard on the front brake, full compression dive and at about 10 feet away they bounded off. This is too much, at 70 Ive got other things Id still like to be able to do rather than take more chances like this.....and my heart isnt in it any more, desire to ride is gone. All the bikes are up for sale.

8 wks out from the crash and a couple days ago the hard, deep ache in my left ribcage is gone, shoulder has rehabbed quite well. Ive stayed 'busy' but lost muscle tone and endurance, read: Im a whimp! Im thinkin by Halloween I'll be back in pretty decent condition but it has been A Long Couple Of Months!

Yeah, but you kept active which is the key. Really glad you're close to normal. The muscle tone will return. Do you have a bicycle? Builds some core strength without seemingly any effort. Another couple of months and it really will be behind you!

11wks out yesterday, doing better though the lingering effects do go on, was thinking Id be over much of it by Halloween and so it will. Ive been working on more stuff around home and our off grid cabin, yes, stayin busy/its all PT. I should be able to shovel snow pretty well when it comes....... Winter is comin on here in Wisconsin, peak fall colors this weekend but drizzly; all in all it would have been good fall riding (still is for me in the car). So much to do around the 'homestead', def Not bored.

Halloween was, I guess, hopeful. I still feel a bit bashed up so maybe by Thanksgiving? I am doing more stuff, must as winter preps about the homestead are necessary. As no-one is cracking on the SR yesterday I put it into storage/lay-up for the winter. I have a unit a few miles down the road and trailered it, I still dont care to ride at all..... Im not bummed, or even disappointed; life is good

I'm glad you haven't gotten rid of your SR Gcrank. Probably the urge will catch you in the spring.
I have gone to armor after experiencing a slide and drag over gravel and rocks ten years ago. A friend had lent me a Motocross jacket and insisted I wear it. I was quite surprised to find no broken bones and the only actual blood was on the back of my hand where the gravel wore through my leather glove (but didn't get through the miracle fiber of the jacket (which had armor at elbow and shoulder and backbone).

4 and 1/2 months out and Im pretty well healed up, by 5mo. on Jan 10 can likely call it good. Been long...... We have winter here so some good PT time until spring. Passion now is our remote recreational 9+ acres, mixed wooded and meadow, with an off grid cabin, small toolshed/workshop and my little 3cy diesel John Deere tractor (1025R) with several attachments. We've had this one since Aug 2020, had a prev one at my folks farm where I grew up that we built by hand in '83-'84 mostly with repurposed wood from the orig 1897 barn. Lost that one when the folks died and we the kids had to sell the estate. The 16x24 shack on this one was poorly built by the prev owner. I had intended to rebuild/improve as we went but Ive run out of time and energy. We have just contracted with a firm that makes 'portable' log cabins to bring us a pretty much custom 12.5 x 28 ft in the spring. They build them indoors until finished so a nice winter build for them. I'll prep the landing pad, have them bring and set it, we'll move the furniture in and tear down the shack, or better yet get some local Amish to do it for the lumber. Ive got my own small scale solar, LFP battery bank inverted to Pure Sine Wave 120vac and a 2000w inverter generator; that provides all the power we need without the expense of the grid and monthly bills. It is a great place and worthy of my efforts now

Cranky old lad,you are living the dream . 9&1/2 acres ? I reckon you may now struggle to find time for a rideout, enjoy it and put some pics on here as it progresses. Over here if I'd got that land some property developer would want to buy it and put new builds up. While I'm on,a healthy happy christmas to all

Sounds like a nice place Gcrank! I'm remembering SW Wisconsin as a mixture of low hills, valleys and limestone with all the possibilities for caves and vertical cliffs, very fun place and attractive scenery.
I envy your John Deer! Those 3 cylinder Japanese diesels are amazing engines, quiet and capable of large amounts of work. I had a 19 HP Mitsubishi 3 cyl for a couple of years and was totally pleased by the work it would do, and shocked by how little fuel it used!
IT sounds like you are on your way for next season with your house queue'd up to be built indoors and needing only a pad to place it on (well probably better plan on a septic system and outlet from the house, or something )
Anyway, Happy new Years to all!

We've had decades to work out our comfort level for off-grid, and upgraded at this place by a good bit these past few years. Still considered primitive by many but not really so. Our utility water is diy filtered dual 50gal rain barrels and potable we bring in because we pass a public approved artesian well enroute; can also get water at several neighbors if needed. We have filtering if needed and a 2.5gal ss countertop fresh water tank that we rotate the new water into each visit. No faucet, we use a dipper. The 'facility' is a diy composting system, works exceedingly well (if anyone needs more info see The Humanure Book). I will never dig another 'pit' again! Nothing goes into the ground water to contaminate it. Grey water is into a simple French Drain. Btw, no plumbing in the cabin/nothing to winterize, fail, etc. LED lights, LFP batteries, Pure Sine Wave Inverters and our little 1750/2000w peak inverter generator have been game changers. The solar is froth on the mug as needed. Tool and device chargers, flip switch lights, tv/vhs and a small dvd player, radio; quite the mix of high and low tech. It isnt complicated, just different. If there is any downside it is that I am the utility company, all of it, lol; but things hold together very well. Of course running equipment, especially a chain saw and dealing with snags in the trees cleanup, etc has dangers too......
