overflowing carb, fire, and frustation

Crash and hopefully not burn - I bought a new needle and seat from Thumperstuff a month back, haven't put it in yet... but he told me to check it against the original saying there were some out there that weren't "right"... if you got something like that perhaps it isn't sealing even with the float working right? Setting the level the "dry" way (measuring from gasket surface) might not confirm proper op then. You'd have to check level "wet" by running a clear hose from the bowl drain up along the carb side and see where the level was when running.

Just an idea for if your problem comes back.
