There is lots of xt and tt 500's racing dirttrack here in Aus., in classic dirttrack classes. Most club raceday's have a classic class, and they also have had classics as support classes in state and national title meetings in recent years. Track venues arent as numerous as they once were, but you can still get plenty of track time here in n.s.w. Most clubs have regular practice days and come and try days. Stew Ross, you have no excuse, as Canberra has one of the best [and most unique] tracks in the country, backed up by a really good club. Double thump, you have no excuse either, as I am the same age as you and still race. The speed may have dropped of a little over the years, but the fun factor has not. Cheers Franky b.

While in the US in 2001, I managed to get to Springfield, for the Mile and TT meetings and also to Peoria for the TT meeting there. All three race meetings were great, but I had never seen anything as exciting as the final race on the mile track at Springfield. Watching the leading group of 6 guys on XR750 Harleys ride 25 laps in the classic "freight train" at 130 mph down the straights and with the lead changing sometimes 5 or 6 time in a corner is just a sight that I think ever bike rider just has to see.
For all the non US readers, I would recommend that if you ever get over to the US, to put in an effort to get to an AMA dirt track event, especially a mile event.

I have raced at the short circuit here before, years ago now though. I think I will stick with getting the Salt Racer on-line before I venture into anything else at the moment... SR
