Hmm, Mick you are possibly right there...I looked at the other pics from the Yam brochures and they're all at the bottom...look on our ACT site...scroll down the page and they're all at the bottom... home.vtown.com.au/~sross2/Did you also note that the rear axle was in the wrong way around...hard to remove it easily from there... the second one looks like its from a ride report a guy took in the Phillipines a while ago Can read it here: www.gazette9.com/scg/olongapo.htmAs i recall he contemplates all the old prostitute bars in the areas he cruises through So in the second one, maybe Yamaha dont use hooker-bar hopping SR's as offical promo?

Here's the Aus SR500E brochure pic...check out the back axle...and the Aus only side cover decals. It has a different frame to the red one as well, the earlier ones had more gussetting around the rear peg/muffler support tubing...anything else? Heh, heh...small details... SR

Also notice the Aussie brochure has no reference to the "Star Red" colour ! I didn't remember seeing any red until the late 79-80 models here & the red was more a candy apple red with a drum rear . The other version was black with a splash of red but I think that was 81-82 . I think that the SR500 & the XS650 Special was possibly launched around the same time here but the SR could've beat the XS by a few months. Growing up in Perth we were about 6-12 months behind eastern states in what we could get ! There was only 3 yammy dealers back then & I think only 1 of them was actually bringing them over & that was late 79 for a 78 model . So there you go the WA ones have had less road time (must be worth at least $1000 more ha ha) cheers Dave.

This bit about the red has got me going. All I remember for sure, was when I was about 18 which was in 1978, I saw this wicked red 500 single road bike, with gold 500 single decals. It was not the red on the brochure posted here - a much deeper red almost (but not quite) maroon. Sort of not quite candy red either. In fact, I did not realise you could get any other colour until I bought my bike a couple of years ago and found this forum - until then I thought they were all red! Mick
